Volla phone touch screen freeze.

Hi,

I have had a issue for a while that sometimes touch input just stops working. To get it to work again I have to lock the phone. Then after unlocking it works fine again.

It also sometimes freezes for a little bit and then inputs my actions in quick succession.

This is starting to frustrate me now, anyone know how to solve this issue?

@quget : which channel are you on? If RC,
I have a Volla Phone on RC and have noticed more problems since about the start of this month (last 3 OS updates, although I just installed latest version and haven't tested that one properly). There is already a thread on the issue. Freezes, restarts are what I see. It is annoying, but not to a point that it's unusable.
Will try the lock - unlock screen to check if it works when I have a freeze (until now, I closed-opened app)

To better understand, can you better detail under what conditions your touch input issues occur? Is it when using a particular .click ? Using the browser?.. a particular website?....

@quget : Ah okay. I am on RC for quite some time, and use my Volla as daily driver too.
RC has given me no extra problems.
I think if you choose a more experimental channel, you should be aware.

Could your issue with freezes be related to this thread reporting freezes/lock-ups?

@domubpkm doesnt matter what application I have open it just sometimes stops respondimg to my input. Until I lock and unlock my screen.

Could it be that an update went wrong on my side?

@quget I do not know, maybe. But OTA-22 has not been without occasional bugs on the Volla. I suggest you wait for OTA-23 and install it using the UBports installer with a good internet connection, rather than through system settings, AND without erasing your data. Maybe your troubles will be fixed.

@quget I have the same problem on my Volla, exactly as you describe. I am not aware of any relevant update in the recent past that could have caused this.

I first thought that it might be a hardware problem, but the trick to lock the phone and then it is functioning again speaks against a hardware problem.

Are there already any solutions to this?

@gt I also have this problem. The description is that the screen gets unreactive, showing whatever it was there. Sometimes I also notice that Unity opens some random applications without any touch. Turning off and on (without rebooting) the phone gets the responsiveness back, sometimes the button has to be pressed more than once. I attributed it first to Waydroid, since it was more or less after I installed it that I started noticing this, but even if I don't start Waydroid I still see the issue.

It is especially annoying when you get a call and you cannot respond to it.

Good to hear (sorry) that this does not affect only me, because I was starting to think it is a hardware problem, and I wanted to make sure that it was not only affecting me before opening a bug report.

Has anybody already opened an issue on this?

@wgarcia Thanks for your description. Indeed, I also noticed that - in situations where the touch screen freezes - sometimes random apps open or even some strange text appears where I was about to type something at the moment the touch screen freezes.

BTW, I don't have Waydroid installed. This cannot be a reason.

I have not opened a bug report. Will you open one?

@gt I confirm I have the same bug on my volla. But I can't find a reliable way to reproduce it. Some times it's one time by day, some time 3 times in minute. I was suspecting video in browser, but I can reproduce in other situation... And sometimes I can watch lot of video in brother without bug...

Someone as a way to reproduce it every time?

@manland My wife encounter the same issue on her Volla Phone OTA-22, especially those last 3 weeks (for unknown reasons).
Some days 2 or 3 time/day (reboot required), and then nothing during a few days...
So not so serious... But it seems those issues could have been fixed in future OTA-23(?)

@manland I can't reproduce it reliably. I encounter the problem often, multiple times a day. Sometimes, as you describe, several times in a minute.

There's nothing to lose by going to the RC channel and seeing what's going on. And that's the goal. Memory leaks have been fixed on the latest RC.

Om RC channel now. So far my screen didn't act up. Everything feels a bit smoother too.

@quget my screen acted up today. It did random inputs several times without me touching the screen.

I've been on the RC channel for a while now.

The issue of screen becoming no reactive has not disappeared, but it looks that it does not happen as often as before. For the first hour or so after upgrading to RC, it worked perfectly. Then it started freezing again.

The other issue, several random apps opening without a touch, is also here.

Something I've also noticed anecdotally is that when the battery is low the issue of non reactive screen is worse, but I do not have any evidence on this.

By the way, it seems this issue is device specific, may be some mod could move this thread to the Volla Phone subforum.

@wgarcia Did you just previously use hotspot or vpn when this bug happened?
