It's exciting to have a new UT compatible tablet. I will buy it although I don't see it being 5G compatible.

Makes me wonder which rebranding it is since Gigaset do not seem to make Tablet anymore... looks like a Blackview Tab 18 maybe (?)

The tablet will have two strong points :
12 gb ram !! + two SIM slots.

@domubpkm 5G implementation is pretty poor in some areas around me, so 4G would suffice. However, cell (mobile) providers seem to be dropping their data only SIM's!

@domubpkm Some providers seem to be dropping their data only SIM's, however Vodaphone is not according to their website. I think the loss of the 3G network coupled with personal choice of a smartphone over tablet (or the new foldable devices becoming phablets) is probably driving this! Some ISP's provided routers with a SIM slot to keep the Internet connection alive if ADSL/VDSL went down, but with the advent of fibre to the house which is really reliable, these are more than likely going to be phased out and there was another reason for DATA only SIM's.
Also the market share of SIM less phones seem to be hitting the US (thanks Apple), so will no doubt be hitting Europe in the same way, so looking to the future, eSIM's will become the norm (which UT doesn't support yet?) . I had the joy of repairing a SIM less phone which had SIM slots to get it to see a SIM card, but the device was locked to eSIM only, even though the provider had unlocked it (sorry digress).
I get good 5G coverage, but it flicks to 4G a lot and where I work, it is non-existent. If I leave my Android device to prefer 5G, the connection just drops! 4G just works, but then again, I have been in the middle of the Sonoran Desert in Arizona and got a better signal than I get at work with cell towers nearby.

@Lakotaubp Not announced for now. I suppose prices will be lower at the beginning in April on kickstarter.

Oh nice, I really want a UT tablet. I wonder how good the Mediatek SOC though. With a quick search, it's on par but a bit worse than SD845 which is in Poco F1 if I'm not mistaken. 12GB of RAM is nice though especially for running Waydroid 😄 Hopefully external display will also be supported.

                            Hi,
According to Volla, they already are shipping the Volla tablet.
I am interested in the "Wireless External Monitor" feature. Currently it is not working on their phones. The tablet does not have its page in ubports website, so I asked Volla and their answered saying that the devs were working on it.
Does anyone know (@TheKit @deathmist ) if this feature is in a "priority" list or it is considered secondary/difficult to address now?
Does anyone already receive it? Please, share your opinions. Thank you.

@aimar Checked with Volla customer service yesterday re delivery and their reply was that the tablet with UT was not ready to ship yet. Only shipping the tablet with Volla OS. They did not give any idea when it will be ready.

@DenMoore I think most likely depends on Ubuntu 24.04. So wait..

@aimar I wouldn't get my hopes high about wireless display. Currently, the compatibility is finicky in UT. Only Microsoft Wireless Adapters are known to reliably work while other adapters would be a lottery. And even if it works, it's not good for "desktop" use if that's what you want. Input lag/latency is not good with wireless display, even in Android it won't be a good experience.

Anyway, it seems like most, if not all Volla devices don't have wired display out support, interestingm I wonder why 🤔

@domubpkm, on Jan 24th Volla wrote:
"We expect to start shipping the Volla Tablet with Ubuntu Touch at the end of the month. Ubuntu Touch runs perfectly on the device. We will provide two features with a system update:

                                    • The easy installation and use of Ubuntu desktop apps with Ubuntu Touch Noble based on Ubuntu 24.04 LTS
                                    • The support of VoLTE"

With the answer @DenMoore got, I wonder if you have to buy a tablet with Volla OS and then instal Ubuntu on it by yourself (via system update). In their shop you choose the OS but it seems that they will send you the same.
I would appreciate more transparency. This community will not be blinded by marketing but by specs and freedom. I do not mind delays and I prefer real facts.
@kugiigi, I pretend to project interactive presentations, in which I will draw and I will manipulate 3D models. A noticeable lagging is undesirable.
I mentioned wireless connection because the Lenovo Tab M10 HD 2nd Gen Wifi 4G/64GB has that feature. I prefer being free of wires, but if the connection has a noticeable lag, I would not mind a wired connection. However, as I see in the devices page, among all the phones only Fairphone 4 has that feature.
Will it be one or another (wireless or wired) be extended to the other devices?

@aimar All devices are capable of wireless display however it may depend on the port if it's enabled or working. Wired display out is a hardware feature though so you can't just implement it.

@kugiigi Got it! Thank you. It seems a lost battle though.

On the one hand, if the wireless mirroring is so disappointing I guess, and I understand, the developers will focus their efforts on more useful issues.

On the other hand, if wired mirroring depends on hardware, there is nothing to do, since it seems that the new promoted devices (except FP4) are not prepared for such feature.

I really miss convergence for a tablet. The only ones that have a wired mirroring feature are the old BQ Aquaris M10. I own a BQ E4.5 and Morph crashes a lot (although I will keep using it until its pieces fall apart). I suppose it is due to its low RAM, but I do not think a second hand BQ M10 will do better now. My presentations rely on HTML+CSS+JS so I would create a webapp with Weber, pointing to my presentations.

@aimar Yeah, 1GB or even 2GB of RAM isn't enough these days. UT may still work relatively smoothly but multitasking with multiple apps especially browsers/webapps would be a struggle.

I got my UT tablet a few days ago. I miss a few things like easy printer support or a working password manager solution. Location takes a while to kick in with uNav but it works. And the pen is at least now not yet supported by UT, which was not mentioned in the shop. But I'm happy to have a Linux tablet that works!

                                              Hi @antidorsessions

If I'm not mistaken printing is work in progress, so that could land in Ubuntu Touch in a not so distant future.
For A-GPS, that is a know issue as well as the pen which is pretty rare, hence lack of support at the moment.
For the password manager, maybe there are alternatives working on Ubuntu Touch, but yes we lack some support for the popular ones...
